In this day and age, every business needs a website! But, is your business ready for a website?
Your website is the window to your online business. It tells people who you are and what services you provide.
It shows you are professional, serious about what you do, gives legitimacy to your business and shows off your expertise so people trust you.
It should be a place where visitors can sign up for your email list (with a “lead magnet”), schedule an appointment to meet with you, and register for one of your programs… all on autopilot.
Your website should be your best sales employee and the central hub of everything you do online. It should be the ONE place you send people for anything they need… freeing up your time to do what you are most passionate about in your business.
However, not every business is ready for a website.
There are some things you need to have thought about and decided on BEFORE you build your website.
So how can you tell if your business is ready for a website?

Here’s a quick check…
1. Do you have a service or product you are ready to sell?
This may sound pretty basic, but you need to know exactly what services you offer. Do you offer one-on-one coaching? Do you offer a group program? Do you have a course people can sign up for? What exactly is it you are selling or offering people?
2. Do you know WHO you want to work with?
Who is your ideal client? Are you planning to work with men or women? What struggles are those people having? You should have a clearly defined niche and know exactly WHO you are talking to when you write the copy for your website.
(If you are struggling with your niche, download the “How to Define Your Niche Worksheet”)
3. What is the problem you will be solving?
People come to your website for several reasons, but usually, it’s because they have a specific problem they are trying to find help with.
And you can help them!
For example, if you are a coach who helps recently divorced women be more confident in themselves and their decisions, you will want to speak to those women on your website. Your website would tell them exactly how you help them with their struggles and how they can move forward.
Or if you are a mom with a child who has some mental health struggles, you will be looking for someone who can help with your child’s specific needs. You will be looking for websites that address your child’s needs and you feel are talking to YOU.
So before you are ready for a website, you need to know who you are going to be talking to and the problem you will be solving for them.
4. What are people supposed to DO to work with you?
Do you have a system for people to work with you or sign up for your program? When someone comes to your website and sees that you can solve their problem, what do they do next? Have you figured that out? What are the steps to work with you?
Here’s an example of what I use on my website. It should be a simple 2 or 3 step process. The key is to TELL people the process so the know what they are supposed to DO.
How do you know if your business is ready for a website?

If you can answer each of the four questions, or at least have a pretty good idea of the answers, your business is ready for a website. You are ready for a website that speaks to your ideal clients, grows your business and frees up your time so you can do what you love.
You should have a website that is the place you are excited to send people to learn more about you, to sign up for your services, to get on your email list, or to schedule an appointment with you.
